Group Meetings and Opinion Development:
Two groups debated the medical aspects of the two topics below. Each group was led by a facilitator who presented the consensus to the larger audience in a following session (5:30 – 6:30 pm).

  • Topic One (Groups 1)

    What, if any, are the indications for prophylactically matching red cells in chronically transfused patients?

  • Topic Two (Groups 2)

    What are the options for expanding duration or modifying content of transfusion medicine training?

    As a result of our survey responses, the following topics generated considerable interest (please click HERE for additional details):
    • Under what circumstances should iron supplementation be offered to blood donors?
    • What are the medical considerations for standardizing the therapeutic dose of blood components?
    • What are the hematocrit/hemoglobin guidelines for red cell transfusion?

5:15 pm BREAK (beverages served)

5:30 - 6:30 pm
Full Group Meeting:
Discuss and merge opinions from the four breakout groups. Presentation by breakout group facilitators. Discussion of the result from the forum (website, publication, etc.). Moderated by Bob Jones and PATM members.

6:30 - 7:00 pm
Business Meeting:
Discuss PATM organizational issues such as officers, website, resources, etc.
